PHOEBE ANTOINETTE McCREA
Phoebe Antoinette McCrea was born on 16 July 1891 in Cornwallis RM, Manitoba to Lorenzo Carlton McCrea (1855-1916) and Elizabeth Jane (Eliza) Gardiner (1853-1900). Her siblings were: Arthur Carlton (1879-1975), Mabel Cora (1882-1974), Francis Joseph (1884-1963), Gertrude Amy (1886-1966), Hannah Rubena (1887-1903), Thomas Wellington (1889-1923), Albert Lorenzo (b 1893) and Beatrice Lucina (1895-1903).
In 1901 the McCrea family lived in Brandon, Manitoba and in 1906 on a farm located at 18-11-21-W1 in Mayne RM, Manitoba. Phoebe first appeared in Saskatoon Henderson Directory listings in 1913. In 1913 she lived at 635 Broadway and in 1914 at 740 6th Ave N. Over the years she worked as a cashier and later a stenographer for Crown Life Insurance Company. In 1915 and 1916 she lived with the Greenaway family at 604 Duke St. Some members of the Greenaway family also signed the quilt. In 1918 and 1919 she lived at Apartment 8 in the Listnadill Apartments and in 1920 at Apartment 8 in the McKim Block. She could no longer be found in Saskatoon after 1920. Travel documents indicated that she was living in the United States in 1927. She died in February of 1972 in Pima, Arizona at the age of 80. As her surname was still McCrea, it would appear that she never married.
