Edward Ernest Hughesdon was born on 30 July 1876 in Bermondsey, London, England to John William Hughesdon (1833-1897) and Jemima Stuckey (1837-1899). Edward had nine siblings, John James (1860-1939), Jemima (1862-1911), Alice (1864-1951), Albert Edward (1866-1953), Walter Herbert (1868-1903), Elizabeth (1871-1886), Jessie Charlotte (1873-1880), Sidney Alfred (1874-1956) and Charles Thomas (1878-1934).
Edward grew up in Bermondsey where his father was a porter probably in the local wholesale fruit market. The family lived at 7 Albert St, Bermondsey.
Edward immigrated to Canada in about 1906. He filed a homestead claim on 12 October 1916 for SW-16-46-14-W3 which is where he was living in 1916. This in RM Roundhill, North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
The following year, Edward was working as a porter for CNR Freight whilst rooming at Temperance Hotel Ave B North just across the road from the depot; it appears his homesteading had failed.
By 1919, Edward was an accountant at National Trust Co where he worked until retiring in 1935. After living at the Temperance Hotel, he moved to 1019 Lansdowne Ave and later 805 7th St.
On retiring he moved to Victoria, British Columbia and took a summer cruise on SS ‘Princess Louise’ from Prince Rupert to Ketchikan, Alaska, USA in 1935.
He lived at 1219 Vining St and then 1709 Kings Road, Victoria, British Columbia.
Edward died on 7 June 1950 in Victoria.
