ANDREW LESLIE

Andrew Leslie was born on 1 April 1888 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland to James Leslie (1847-1926) and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Gibson (1867-1950). His siblings were: Margaret (Maggie) (1886-1911), James (1889-1967) and William (1890-1959). In 1901 the Leslie family was living in Waterside, Londonderry, Ireland. Andrew boarded SS 'Tunisian' on 4 April 1907 and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 13 April 1907. He gave his occupation as clerk and his final destination as Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Andrew lived in Winnipeg until 1909 and then moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he joined the municipal administration as a city clerk. From at least 1916 to 1921 he was a lodger at 511 5th Street North. On 28 February 1921 he was appointed City Commissioner of Saskatoon and remained in that capacity until shortly before his death in 1949. He married Norma Kemp on 22 July 1925 in Winnipeg. Norma was born on 26 June 1896 in Indian Head, Saskatchewan to John Wesley Kemp (1865-1929) and Elizabeth Barzarkie (1873-1961). She had one sister, Hazel Elizabeth (1894-1970). She was raised in Indian Head and was still living there with her parents in 1921.

Andrew and Norma had two daughters. From at least 1930 to 1949, the Leslie family lived at 1215 Elliott Street. Andrew died on 8 November 1949 in Saskatoon and Norma on 11 May 1993 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Both were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon.
