Dorothy Macmillan Brown was born in May 1907 probably in Vancouver, British Columbia to Charles Alexander Brown (1872-1953) and Ellen (Nellie) Elizabeth Campbell(1877-1964). Charles and Nellie had married on 18 August 1906 at 889 Burrard St, Vancouver, the home of Charles’ brother Colin Campbell Brown. Dorothy had two siblings, Ronald (b 1909) and Mary Jane (b 1913).
At some point, Dorothy’s parents separated and Nellie and the children left British Columbia for Ontario. In the 1921 census, Dorothy, Ronald & Mary Jane and their mother were living with her mother’s brother, Alexander, on his farm in Culross.
Dorothy married James Thomas Herbert Carter on 31 July 1926 in Walkerton, Bruce County. James was born on 13 April 1900 in Walkerton to Joseph Carter (1865-1936) and Mary Jane Richardson (1870-1941). James had five siblings, Ross Richardson (1902-1924), Mabel May (1904-1994), George Edgar (1906-1981), Harvey Medford (1908-1974) and Howard (1911-1989).
Dorothy and James had one daughter, Wilma J (1927-1948).
James died in 1958 and Dorothy in 1982.
