Mrs CLARA CECELIA CAMPBELL née DOEBLER,
EDGAR & CLARA CAMPBELL

Clara Cecelia Doebler was born on 1 July 1866 probably in in Mary borough Twp, Ontario to Henry Deobler (1831-1914) and Annie Cecelie Ahrens (1833-1904). Clara had eight siblings, Catherine (1857-1940), Margaret Gertrude (1860-1935), Mary Anne (b 1861), Helena (b 1864), Louis (b 1869), Henrieta (1871-1958), Alma C (b 1888) and Lavina F (b 1889).

By 1881, the family had moved to Greenock, Bruce County where Henry farmed. Clara married Archibald D Campbell on 20 August 1890 in Greenock. Archibald was born on 19 June 1857 probably in Greenock to Duncan Alexander Campbell (1830-1911) and Elizabeth Logan (b 1836). Elizabeth née Logan died sometime before 1873 and Duncan remarried on 19 June 1873 in Elgin to Elizabeth Forester/McKellar, a widow (1831-1906).

Archibald had a least seven siblings, Duncan Alexander (1854-1929) Margaret (b 1859), James Duncan (1861-1923), Roger (b 1864), Vair/Veer/Veiar (b 1865), Hugh (b 1866) and Janet (b 1870). Archibald worked on his father’s farm until his marriage to Clara. The couple moved to Walkerton and Archibald took up the trade of plasterer.

Clara and Archibald had ten children,

Ella May (b 1899),
Cecilia Elizabeth (b 1897),
Clara Victoria (b 1901),
Wellington James (1903-1979),
Edmund Louis (1905-1982),
Roy Adam (b 1908) and
Hugh Elmer (b 1910).

Archibald died in 1942 and Clara died in 1953 in Teeswater, Bruce County.

Edgar Allen Campbell was born on 18 January 1895 in Greenock Twp, Bruce County. Edgar enlisted in the 160 Battalion on 26 January 1916. After training in Canada, he travelled to England and then served in France and Belgium receiving a gunshot wound the right leg during 1918. He fully recovered and following his discharge, he returned to Canada in 1919. No further information has been found for Edgar. It is likely that his mother placed his name on the quilt.

Clara Victoria Campbell was born on 6 May 1901 in Greenock Twp. It is thought that she was a teacher from at least 1921 to 1940 but this has not been confirmed. No further information has been found for Clara.
