COLVIN/HENDRY/JOHNSTON/SCHUMACHER

George Colvin was born on 10 March 1854 in Stratford, Perth County to William Colvin (1828-1897) and Martha Margaret Martin (1835-1911). George had six siblings, Dorcas Jane (Jennie) (1855-1933), Andrew William (1858-1921), John McCullough (Jack) (1864-1915), Rebecca Mary (1867-1898), Robert (1868-1944) and William Alexander (b 1882).

The Colvin family grew up on Concession 2 in Culross. Andrew William Colvin was a telegraph operator when he married Fannie Johnston on 16 July 1884 in Teeswater. Fannie was born on 12 July 1863 in Teeswater to James Johnston (1838-1919) and Mary Victoria Ross (1841-1910). Fannie had six siblings, Emma (b 1863), Alexander (1864-1882), Wallace (b 1870), Marion (b 1873), Ross (1876-1903) and Henry (b 1883).

Andrew and Fannie had two children,

Martha (b 1885) and
Mark (b 1888).

Andrew was a Sergeant in 8th Company 32nd Battalion prior to WWI but nothing further is known. Fannie was living with her parents or siblings from 1891 onwards. She is recorded as a widow in 1921. Fannie died on 5 August 1932 and is buried in Teeswater Cemetery.

George Colvin married Mary Ann McKenzie on 23 September 1844 in Culross. Mary was born on 29 August 1867 in Culross to Roderick McKenzie (1834-1922) and Catherine McKenzie(1835-1918). Mary had four siblings, Effie (b 1863), John (b 1865), Christena (b 1869) and Gessey (b 1872).

George and Mary had six children,

William Andrew (1886-1958),
Roderick John (Roy) (1887-1968),
Louise May (J. Mary) (b 1892),
Etta Lula Bell (Luetta) (1893-1980),
M Rebecca (b 1899) and
Jessie (1901-1979).

George farmed on Lot 16, Concession 3 in Culross. He died of pneumonia on 4 November 1902.

Luetta lived on the family farm. She never married and died on 27 August 1980.

Subsequent to George’s death, Mary married Edward Schumacher on 8 June 1910 in Culross. Edward was born on 23 October 1876 probably in Culross to Peter John Schumacher (1851-1936) and Maria Barbara Kohler (1949-1920). Edward had nine siblings, Peter F (1872-1955), Catherina (1873-1956), Pauline (1879-1949), Charles J (1881-1951), Albert (1884-1971), Margaret (1886-1980), Cecilia Margarith (1889-1976), Matilda (b 1889), and David Joseph (1890-1974).

Edward was already an established farmer in Culross when he married Mary. Mary died on 14 March 1956 and George died on 10 November 1958 both in Culross.

Charles Schumacher married Helen Regina (Lena) Kroetsch in about 1925. Lena was born on 2 December 1888 in Culross to Fredrick Kroetsch (1852-1918) and Anna Kremer (1854-1936). Lena had five siblings, Maria (b 1882), Joseph (b 1883), William (b 1885), Peter (b 1891) and Grace (b 1893).

Charles and Lena had five ( and possibly eight) children,

John Frederick (Jack) (1911-1961),
Walter (1927-1965),
Irene (1928-1975),
Frank (1929-1977),
Mary (1932-1986),
Raymond, Edward and
George (about whom nothing is known).

Charles died in 1951 and Lena died on 10 June 1961. They are both buried in the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Teeswater.

Wallace Johnston was born on 18 August 1870 in Culross. He became a blacksmith and continued to live with his parents and later with his sister, Fannie in Culross. Nothing further is known about Wallace.

Robert Colvin was born on 28 July 1868 in Stratford, Ontario to William Colvin (1828-1927) and Martha Margaret Martin (1835-1911) - see above. Robert married Christena (Tena) Mackenzie on 22 March 1893 in Culross. Tena was born 28 July 1868 probably in West Zorra, Oxford North, Ontario to Murdoch Mackenzie (1830-1902) and Georgina MacDonald (b 1837).

Robert and Georgina had four children,

Elda (b 1893),
Ethel Marian (b 1896),
Robert John (Jack) G (1899-1987) and
Henrietta Kathleen (b 1907).

Ethel Marian married Lovat “James” Hendry on 29 October 1921 in Windsor, Essex County. James was born on 8 July 1895 in London, ontario to James Hendry (1863-1902) and Isabella Fraser (1865-1949). James had two siblings, John William (b 1892) and Jean Fraser (1897-1962). Ethel died in 1984.

Jean Fraser Hendry was born on 20 September 1897 in Windsor, Essex County to James Hendry (1863-1903) and Isabella Fraser (1865-1949). Jean’s father was a engineer with Canadian Pacific Railroad and Jean became a nurse; continuing to live with her mother after her father’s death.
