DUGALD C FERGUSON

Dugald C Ferguson was born on 20 October 1857 in Grey, Huron, Ontario to James Ferguson (1831-1911) and Elizabeth Strachan (1835-1925). Dugald had eleven siblings, William A (1860-1900), James C (1860-1924), Thomas A (1863-1926), Mark E (b 1864), Donald (b 1865), John (1867-1928), Elizabeth E (b 1870), Peter S (b 1872), Robert William (1873-1941), Winifred Alexandria (Allie) (1878-1933) and Margaret Isa (b 1879).

Dugald was a tinsmith when he married Elizabeth Haycroft on 29 May 1878 in Wroxeter, Huron County. Elizabeth was born on 21 March 1855 in Albany, New York to John Haycraft (1816-1877) and Elizabeth King (1820-1910). Elizabeth had ten siblings, Benjamin (b 1839), Thomas (1841-1842), Thomas (1843-1886), Harriet (1845-1928), Emily (1847-1870), Sarah Elizabeth (1849-1855), George W (1852-1889), Eliza (1856-1938), Joseph (1859-1871) and Louise (1864-1920).

Elizabeth’s brothers, Thomas and George Haycraft had a successful Hardware and Tinware business in Brussels, Huron County in the 1870s and it seems likely that Dugald C Ferguson was working for them when he married Elizabeth.

Dugald and Elizabeth settle in Teeswater after their marriage where Dugald continued working as a tinsmith and later ran a hardware store. Dugald and Elizabeth had five children,

Cora Elizabeth (1879-1918),
Bertram James (1882-1923),
George Dougald (1884-1954),
Zetta May (1885-1949) and
Thomas Russell (1888-1929).

Elizabeth died on 17 October 1923 in Teeswater and Dugald died on 24 August 1924 in York, Ontario.
