DUNCAN KEITH

Duncan Keith was born on 31 December 1890 in Culross, Bruce County to John Keith (1856-1921) and Marion McPherson (1860-1948). Duncan had four siblings, Mary Edna (b 1887), Catherine Ann (1889-1974), William G (1892-1955) and Sarah Jean (1899-1993). Duncan grew up on the family farm at Lot 20, Concessions 4 & 5 in Culross. In 1906, Duncan’s father bought Lot 22 Concession 5 to start a new farm.

In 1914, Duncan and his brother William received the farm as their father had become crippled with inflammatory rheumatism. Duncan married Mary Gordon Strobo, a teacher, on 4 September 1918 in Teeswater. Mary was born on 13 January 1898 in Culross to Samuel David Alexander Andrew Stobo (1863-1948) and Elizabeth Spence (1862-1946). Mary had four siblings, Frances Johnston (b 1896), Elizabeth (1900-1974), Robert A (1903-1972) and James Gordon (1906-1995).

Duncan and Mary had eight children,

Mac.

Duncan died on 19 October 1961 and Mary died on 30 Jun 1978. They are both buried in Culross-Teeswater Cemetery.

Duncan’s mother Marion was a competent knitter and seamstress who took prizes for sewing at the Teeswater Fair in later years. She may well have been involved with the Queen Mary’s Needlework Guild.
