JESSIE LITTLE née RAE

Jessie Rae was born on 7 February 1857 in Wellington County, Ontario to James Rae (1808-1880) and Margaret Murdie (1812-1898). The Rae family had arrived in Ontario from Scotland in about 1856; moving west to Brant, Bruce County by 1871. Jessie married Stephen Little on 18 September 1879 in Brant. Stephen was born in about 1855 in Brant Twp to John Little (1824-1878) and Sarah Craig (1832-1880).

Stephen had four siblings, William (1852-1943), Jane (b 1854), John D (1856-1933) and Hugh Craig (1859-1880).

The Little family farmed on several hundred acres in Maple Hill, Bruce County. In 1880, Stephen and Jessie were farming 100 acres on Con 3 North Lot 48 at Maple Hill.

An outbreak of typhoid fever swept through the Maple Hill community in early 1880 devastating the Little family; brother Hugh died on 9 February, his mother died on 6 March and Stephen died on 26 March.

Jessie returned to her family and lived with her brothers, Alexander and James for many years. Jessie did not re-marry. According to her gravestone, Jessie died in 1960 aged 102 years.
