William McDonald was born on 9 September 1841 in Oxford County, Ontario to William McDonald (1913-1875) and Isabella Cameron (1912-1895). William had at least four siblings, Elizabeth (b 1837), Charlotte (b 1844), Mary Anne (b 1846) and George (b 1847).
William’s family came west to settle in Kinloss, Bruce County by 1861. William married Catherine Campbell on 11 October 1877 in Culross. Catherine was born on 25 November 1855 to Dougald Campbell (1831-1907) and Margaret McMillan (b 1833). Catherine had eleven siblings, Mary Ann (b 1861), Neil (b 1861), William (b 1862), Alexander (b 1864), Barbara (b 1868), Duncan (b 1869), Margaret (b 1870), Agnes (b 1872), Isabella (Bella) (b 1874), Ellen (Nellie) Elizabeth (1877-1964) and Grace Douglas (b 1879).
William and Catherine had four children,
Janet Murray (Jennie) (1878-1937),
Dougald William (1881-1950),
Margaret (Maggie) (b 1885) and
Grace Anna (b 1894).
William ran the general store in Greenock from about 1891 until he retired in the early 1920s. William died on 29 May 1928 and Catherine died on 16 January 1935.
Jennie McDonald married George Edward Robert "Frank" Sanderson on 31 January 1908 in Greenock. Frank was born 26 November 1877 in Walkerton, Grey County to John Wesley Sanderson (1843-1924) and Margaret Jane Tait (1846-1921). Frank had five siblings, Beatrice Louisa (1873-1888), Sabra E (1874-1895), William Jessie Thomas (b 1876), Jessie Thomas Henry Stanley (1880-1966) and Charlotte Ann Victoria Jane (1884-1970).
Jennie and Frank had two daughters,
Katherine Margaret (b 1909) and
Grace Murray (1911-1999).
In 1921, the family were living at Allen Street in Oakville, Halton County where Frank was a school teacher. Jennie died on 11 September 1937 in Oakville and was buried in Greenock Cemetery, Bruce County. Frank continued teaching in Oakville until at least 1949. Frank died on 16 March 1959.
Nothing further is know about Katherine. Grace was a bookkeeper when she married Richard Cleaver Merry (b 1909) on 25 August 1933 in Oakville Grace died on 8 August 1999 in Oakville.
Grace McDonald was born on 8 September 1894 in Greenock. She married Donald Jeffrey Askin (b 1890) on 5 April 1923 in North Grimsby, Bruce County. Donald was a fruit grower. Grace and Donald had one daughter, Margaret (Peggy) (b 1926).
