CATHERINE (KATE) McDOUGAL

Catherine (Kate) McDougal was born in February 1869 in Culross to Dougal McDougal (1808-1908) and Jane McLeod (1829-1924). Kate had six siblings, Mary (1858-1936), Margaret (b 1860), Angus (1862-1952), Mary Ann (1864-1936), Neil (1865-1953) and Agnes (b 1867).

Following the death of her father, her brother Neil seems to have taken over as head of the family and Kate lived with them. Kate worked as a dressmaker in 1921.

Kate died in 1950 and is buried in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Teeswater.

This family has proved very difficult to research satisfactorily; their surname is variously rendered in records as McDougal, McDougall and McDougald as well as sometimes being completely scrambled. The informant on Mary Ann’s death certificate is a Jennet Keleher, described as her sister, but probably a niece by any unknown sibling. If you can help resolve any of these discrepancies, please get in touch.

This family can be found on Ancestry under the title Culross McDougal Tree.
