ANNIE McKAY née MATHESON
Annie Matheson was born on 6 May 1836 in Uig, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland to Donald Matheson (b 1801) and Catherine McIver (b 1808). Annie had two brothers, Malcolm (b 1834) and Alexander (1835-1921). Annie and her brother Alexander came to Canada in 1852.
In 1861 Annie was one of five servants in the household of Robert and Elizabeth Wallace in Goderich, Huron County. Robert Wallace was a merchant.
Annie married Angus McKay on 27 March 1886 in Huron, Bruce County. Angus was born in 1837 in Ross and Cromarty, Scotland to John Bhain MacKay (1788-1873) and Christina (Kirsty) MacDonald. Angus had eight siblings, John Brogie (1819-1891), Catherine (1819-1884), Jane (b 1826), Malcolm Donald (1828-1879), Murdock (1828-1896), Norman (1831-1897), Margaret (b 1833) and George (b 1834).
Angus and Annie farmed in Huron, Bruce County. They had six children,
Angus (1867-1934),
John (1868-1910),
Daniel/Donald (1873-1925),
Malcolm (b 1874),
Christena (1877-1948) and
Neil/Neal (b 1882).
Angus died on 6 July 1904 and Annie died on 21 April 1919. They are both buried in Ripley-Huron Cemetery.
