August Miller was born on 30 July 1965 in Carrick, Bruce County to Antony Miller (1840-1923) and Pauline Miller (1838-1927). August had two siblings, Anna (b 1867) and Paul (b 1869).
August’s parents were both born in the United States and came to Canada before their marriage in 1863 when Antony was working as a labourer. Subsequently, Antony farmed in the Carrick area.
August and his brother Paul were a blacksmiths. August married Frances Catherine Voisin in Formosa, Bruce County on 16 January 1894. Frances was born on 20 April 1976 in Formosa to Jacob Voisin (1838-1886) and Rosina Schmidt (1842-1927). Some records render Rosina’s surname as Schuett.
Frances had ten siblings, John (1865-1905), Joseph Henry (1865-1936), Valentine (1869-1927), Peter Lawrence (1871-1935), Anna Maria (1873-1932), Martin Jacob (1875-1875), Anthony (1878-1878), Mary Magdalen (1879-1963), Elizabeth Rosina (1881-1947) and Ottilia Rosetta (1884-1943 ).
August and Frances had three children,
Gertrude Annie Mary (b 1898),
Harry (b 1900) and
George (b 1908).
By 1921, August was recorded on the census return as a farmer in Culross. However, when he died on 10 June 1933, his occupation was listed as ‘blacksmith’. Frances died on 30 September 1982 in Teeswater.
