Laura Bridget Taugher was born on 15 December 1875 in Teeswater, Bruce County to John Taugher (1840-1924) and Catherine Quinn (1842-1920). Laura had twelve siblings, Hugh (b 1862), Marguerite (b 1863), Margaret (1865-1934), Mary (1865-1934), Ellen (1866-1952), Thomas Patrick (1868-1942), Ann (b 1868), Catherine (b 1874), Elizabeth (1876-1962), John (1877-1954), James (b 1879) and Jane (b 1883).
John Taugher Sr received the Crown Deed for the eastern half (50 acres) of Concession 1 Lot 7 in Culross on 6 April 1869. The western half was claimed on the same date by a Patrick Taugher but we have unable find any other records of this man.
Laura married Alexander Mitchell Nelson on 25 October 1893 in Teeswater. Alex was born on 10 March 1864 in Teeswater to James Nelson (1827-1913) and Anne Mitchell (1829-1894). Alex had ten siblings, Sarah (1851-1906), Thomas (1852-1852), Jane (1853-1936), Thomas Allan (1857-1945), Charlotte (1859-1904), Elizabeth (b 1862), Frank (1865-1923), William Horatio (1867-1950), Archibald John (b 1870) and Gilbert Macdonald (1873-1957).
Alex was a mechanic and machinist. He died around 1905. After Alex’s death, Laura moved to Toronto and ran a boarding house at 202 McCaul St. Laura died in Toronto on 10 February 1956.
