Mrs C A BILOW née OLIVE HELEN COONS

Olive Helen Coons was born on 16 August 1860 in Matilda, Dundas, Ontario the daughter of Richard Coons & Elizabeth Steed. She had four sisters, Elizabeth (1847-1936), Catherine (b 1849), Emily (b 1851) & Julia (b 1859) and four brothers, William Ezra (1854-1928), John (b 1856), Albert (b 1864) & Robert (b 1865).

Olive Helen married Calvin Amos Bilow (b 7 March 1865 in Winchester, Dundas, Ontario) on 6 March 1886. Calvin had five sisters, Angeline, Alezine, Ida, Hester & Ann and two brothers, George Freddie & Thomas W. Olive and Calvin continued to reside in the Dundas area and raised four children, Jessie Ellen (1887-1966), Frederick Clarence (1892-1924), Ruby Claire (b 1894) & Eva Elizabeth (b 1894).

By 1908 the family had moved to Saskatoon and Calvin was in business as a carriage maker with premises at 1st Ave/22nd St. They lived close by and Calvin’s younger brother Freddie lived with them. Freddie was a driver for James Clinkskill, the mayor. In 1910, Calvin was described as a carpenter and the family had moved to 225 10th St. Freddie had become a fireman and lived ‘over the shop’ at the fire hall.

In 1915, Calvin had become a contractor and they moved to 221 10th St E where they remained until 1919.

In 1921, they family moved to Albany, Oregon, USA where Calvin carried on his carpentry business.

Calvin died on 14 January 1935 in Albany and Olive moved to Portland, Oregon where she lived until her death on 31 August 1954.
