WILLIAM BRADWELL

William Bradwell was born on 25 February 1899 in Sheffield, England to Jason Bradwell (1864-1944) & Deborah Ann Bocking (1863-1948). He had four brothers, Charles (1886-1957), Jack (1901-1911), John (b 1902) & Jason (b 1903) and three sisters, Harriet Ann (1889-1890), Fanny (b 1893) & Gladys (1897-1925).

Jason Sr had a brother Luther William (1870-1919) who came to Saskatchewan in 1905 with his family and homesteaded at Loganton to the west of Saskatoon.

In 1910, Jason Sr & Charles travelled to Canada setting up in Saskatoon. Jason Sr staked a home-stead claim close to his brother Luther but also pursued his trade as a mason. Charles operated a boot & shoe maker’s business. On 15 July 1912 Deborah, Fanny, Gladys, William, John and Jason arrived on SS ‘Lake Manitoba’ to join them. The same year, Jason Sr was a councillor for the town of Sutherland (know incorporated into Saskatoon).

In 1915, William was a student living at home with his family. Gladys was a live-in domestic servant for Elias Shaver, the deputy sheriff, at 1031 Aird St. (Elias’ wife Ella and daughter are also on the quilt).

In 1916, William was a clerk for Royal Bank of Canada and Jason’s business as a coal & wood dealer has expanded to include employees. William continued at the bank becoming a teller by 1918. In 1920, Jason Sr and his sons, Jason Jr, John & William were all involved in the family coal & wood business. Charles was a rancher, but they were all living together on 10th St, Sutherland.

William moved onto his father’s homestead claim in 1921 and on 4 June 1924 married Alice Brandvold. Alice was born on 1 July 1904 in Starbuck, Pope, Minnesota, USA to Erland Paulsen Brandvold (1857-1933) & Kari Olsdatter Hagestuen (1862-1937). She came to Canada in 1906 and settled with her family at Loganton.

William & Alice had several children. Alice died on 21 February 1973 in Macklin, Saskatchewan and William died on 11 December 1976.

Their family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Bradwell Tree.
