THOMAS (JAMES) SANDERSON BRANDON and ADALINE (ADA) AMANDA HOWATT

Thomas (James) Sanderson Brandon was born on 2 December 1877 in Orilla, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada to William Brandon (b 1846) & Annie Sproule (b 1851). James had two brothers, William John (b 1876) & Joseph (b 1886) and two sisters, Elizabeth (b 1883) & Edna (b 1889). William was a stone mason who emigrated to Canada in 1870. The family grew up in Orillia, Simcoe East, Ontario.

On 4 May 1904, James married Adaline (Ada) Amanda Howatt in Neepawa, Manitoba, having been lodging with her family in 1901. Ada was born on 13 November 1882 in Beautiful Plain, Manitoba to William Howatt (b 1853) & Ellen Ritchie (b 1858). James & Ada had two sons, James Orval (1905-1905) & William Russell (b 1907).

The family moved to Saskatoon in 1911 and James seems to have worked for Westhaver Hardware before establishing his own plumbing, heating & sanitary ware business at 217 2nd Ave N. He ran this business until 1937 and employed several staff including his son William as an electrician. The building was latterly known as Brandon Block.

James may have retired to Toronto for a few years before his death there in 1944. Ada died in Orangeville, Ontario in 1967, aged 85.

Their family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Brandon Tree.
