Mabel Stella Brandow was born on 11 July 1897 in Manitoulin, Ontario, Canada to Hiram Brandow (b 1857) & Elizabeth Kelly (b 1868). Stella had three brothers, George Hiram (1886-1888), William Robert (b 1892) & Carl (b 1901) and two sisters, Ann Elizabeth (1887-1905) & Eliza Eveline (b 1895).
Hiram was a farmer and took his family to the US in 1907, heading for Kansas. It seems they did not settle as by the 1916 census Hiram & Lizzie with Stella & Carl were living at Mackenzie, Saskatchewan and Hiram was a labourer on a farm, supporting the rest of his family.
On 8 April 1919, Stella married Alva Marvan Spencer at Sheho adjacent to Mackenzie. Sheho is about 150 km south-east of Saskatoon. Alva was born on 16 July 1894 in Redfield, Spink, South Dakota, US to William Wilkinson Spencer (1863-1938) & Alvira Pemelia Bradley (1862-1940).
Alva & Stella had one son Stanley Manly Spencer (1920-1988).
We found no direct proof that Mabel Stella Brandow is this person. However, there was an H Brandow in the 1916 Hendersons who could have been her father, Hiram. 1911 and 1916 census records have the family moving about in Saskatchewan. It may be that the family moved to Saskatoon for a year or so before moving on to British Columbia - or she may just have been in the city for a visit. The name is fairly rare and she was in Saskatchewan during the right time frame.
Their family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Brandow Tree.
