THIRD AVENUE METHODIST CHURCH QUILT

A CANADIAN RED CROSS QUILT

Another quilt?

George Crawford Dale was born in the US about 1886.

In 1909 George attended the annual military camp as a bandsman and was paid $6 for the period 15-26 June. In 1913 George was again at the annual camp; this time as a private and was paid $10.80 for the period 25 June - 5 July. In 1911, George was boarding at 308 20th St W in Saskatoon and worked as a building carpenter. In 1913, George was living and working as a boarding house clerk at 105 Ave B South. By 1914, George was again working as a carpenter and lived at 214 4th Ave N in Saskatoon.

No record could be found of George’s enlistment in the CEF but we has serving in France as Private no 827188 in the 47th Battalion at Fouquescourt on the Somme when he was fatally wounded. He died on 10 August 1918 and was buried in the military cemetery at Warvillers Churchyard, near Roye, Picardy, France. Details of his death were forwarded to his next of kin, Thomas Dale at Summerland, British Columbia. We have not been able to determine whether this was his father, a brother or some more distant relative.

There is a very sparse family tree on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Dale 2 Tree.

 GEORGE CRAWFORD DALE

B02

There was only one George Dale that we found in Henderson City Directory for Saskatoon during quilt signing time (1917-1918). Very little additional information was available in the census records.
