ADA WEBSTER née CHAMBERLAIN

Ada Chamberlain was born on 23 August 1878 in Liverpool, England to William Charles Chamberlain and Sarah Dawson. Her siblings were Beatrice (1881-1913), John Dawson (1883-1885), Elizabeth Jane (Lizzie) (1885-1976) and Sarah (1889-1964).

In 1881 the Chamberlain family was living in Everton, Lancashire, England. In 1889, Ada's mother appeared to have died in child birth as her death date was the same day that Sarah was born. About a year later, in 1890, her father married Mary Rogerson Thomson. Several children were born to this union - Alice (1892), Grace (1893-1939), Doris (1895-1895), Dorothy (Dot) 1895-1939), Olive (1896-1898), John (1897), Jemima (1899-1899), Samuel Rhoades (1899-1899) and Winifred Christina (1901). In 1891, the Chamberlain family was still living in Everton, but youngest child, Sarah was not living with them.

On 11 March 1898, all but Sarah departed Liverpool on SS ‘Lake Ontario’ and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on the 21 March 1898. Their destination was Winnipeg, Manitoba and they were found living there at the time of the 1901 and 1906 censuses. Some trees had Sarah married to Alfred William Bate in England in 1917 with a death year of 1964 in England. Either Sarah died (possibly at the time of her birth when her mother died) or she was raised by someone else and remained in England. She was never recorded living with the rest of the Chamberlain family in any British or Canadian census records.

Ada married David Webster 18 June 1908 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. David was born on 25 May 1881 in Galsgow, Scotland to William H Webster (b 1842) & Jane McBlain (b 1847). His siblings were Mary Jane (b 1871), Matilda (b 1873), John (b 1875), Thomas (b 1877), William (b 1879), Joseph (b 184), George (b 1886), Benjamin (b 1888) & Susan (b 1892). David was a joiner in 1901 and still living with his parents at 165 Butterbiggins Rd, Glasgow. He sailed from Glasgow about 1 May 1903 aboard SS ‘Mongolian’ arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 6 May and travelled on to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Their first child, David W, was born in Saskatchewan 21 August 1909. By the time of the 1911 census the Webster family was living on McPherson Ave in Saskatoon. Their children were: David W (1909-1940), John C (1911-1981), Ina (1915) and Robert Hamilton (Bob) (1920-2007). They lived at 806 McPherson in 1916 and 1921. Ada died on 27 January 1928 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon. David appears to have re-married as the 1949 electoral roll has Marie living with him at 806 McPherson Ave. David died on 1 January 1952 and is buried alongside Ada in Woodlawn Cemetery.
