FREDERICK HENRY WEBB and MARIA WEBB née BROWN
Frederick Henry Webb was born on 28 September 1865 in Ottawa, Ontario to Henry Frederick Webb (1837-1923) and Martha Ann Taylor (1837-1948). His siblings were: Robert (b 1868), Charles (b 1872), Alfred (b 1876) and Benjamin (1880-1916). In 1881 the Webb family was living in Ottawa, Ontario. Frederick married Alice Baskins on 17 August 1887 in Carleton, Ontario. She was born in 1866 in Ontario to James Baskins and Alice Hall. She died on 17 February 1894 in Carleton. The cause of death was given as premature confinement. In 1891 the couple had a sick nurse living with them which suggests that Alice had been sick for some time before her death.
Frederick married Maria Brown on 22 January 1895 in Ottawa. She was born on 2 September 1877 in Renfrew, Ontario to Alexander McCormick Brown Jr (b 1827) and Mary Crear/Creer/Crier/ Kruger/Kreager (b 1847). Her mother’s name was seldom spelled the same way twice in various records. Her siblings were: Mary (b 1865), Margaret Ann (b 1867), Elizabeth C (Lizzie) (b 1869), Alexander (b 1873), Janet Young (b 1875), George (b 1880), Isabella (b 1881), Norman McCormick (1887-1959), Katie Young (b 1892) and James (b 1893).
Frederick and Maria were in Ottawa at the time of the 1901 census, but had moved to Saskatoon by 1911. They were living at 401 3rd Ave N in Saskatoon in 1916-1921. In both 1911 and 1916, Fred was a building contractor and in both census years, their nephew, Joseph Charles “Louis” Webb was living with them. He was the eldest child of Fred’s brother Charles and his wife Marie “Dona” Philomene Duhamel. It is suspected that Dona died when her four children were very young because the youngest child, Alice, appeared to have been raised by her uncle, Benjamin Webb and his wife Effie McFarlane Dale. The 1921 census record for Fred and Maria could not be found. Fred died on 17 June 1923 in Saskatoon and Maria on 15 September 1971, most likely in Saskatoon. Both were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon.
