FREDERICK AYLMER VANDRICK

Frederick Aylmer Vandrick was born on 7 April 1878 in Port Elgin, Ontario to Alexander John Vandrick (1854-1922) and Josephine Raymond (1861-1948). His siblings were: John Henry (b 1879), William James (1882), Alexander Landsdowne (1883-1940), Harry (b 1885), Bessie McPherson (1889-1915) and John Wright (b 1891). In 1881 and 1891, Frederick was enumerated with his parents and siblings in Port Elgin, Ontario.

He married Mary Lavina (Marie) Smith on 13 June 1900 at the British Hotel in Tara, Ontario. His occupation at the time of his marriage was a broom maker. Mary was born on 16 July 1875 near Toronto, Ontario to Cornelius (Neil) Smith and Martha Silver (b 1842). She had at least one sister, Emma Gertrude (b 1873). In 1881, Mary, Emma and her mother, Martha, were living in Parkhill, Middlesex, Ontario. In 1901, Frederick and Mary were living in Owen Sound, Ontario. In 1905, in Cargill, Ontario, they had a son, Raymond Landsdowne, who died later that same year.

1911 found Fred and Mary living back in Port Elgin with his parents and his sister, Bessie. In 1915, Mr and Mrs F A Vandrick appeared on the roll for 3rd Ave Methodist Church in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Their names were removed from the Roll in 1926. 1916 and 1921 found Fred and Mary at 744 Spadina Crescent E in Saskatoon. In 1916 his parents were living with them. The 1918 Saskatoon Henderson Directory gave Fred's occupation as manager of Johnson and Boon (Sask) Ltd, wholesale confectionery & tobacco. Perhaps the Vandricks left Saskatoon for a period of time and returned. Not all Henderson years were searched, but they were not listed from 1930 to 1932. In 1933, F A Vandrick was the proprietor of Van's Five Cent Store, 523 20th St. W. The 1934 Henderson Directory (last Henderson listing found for this family) indicated that Fred was the proprietor of Van's Confectionary living at 215 Ave E S. In 1934, there was also an A L Vandrick (possibly Fred's brother, Alexander Lansdowne) of Van's Confectionary living at 527 20th St W. The last record that could be found for Fred and Mary was a border crossing record to Eastport, Idaho for 15 September 1934 that gave their last permanent address as Saskatoon. He gave "merchant" as his occupation.

This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Vandrick Tree.
