MYRTLE ELLEN (NELL) WEAVER née GODDARD

Myrtle Ellen (Nell) Goddard (Weaver) was born on 2 July 1889 in Hamilton, Ontario to George Albert Goddard (1864-1953) and Elizabeth Ann (Eliza) Batey (1864-1925). Her siblings were: George Albert (1887-1918), William Morris (b 1891), Grace Maude (1893-1974), Ada May (Annie) (b 1895), Douglas Victor (1897-1972), Gordon Stanley (1899-1968) and Mattie Victoria (1903-1988). Until 1901, the Goddard family lived in Hamilton, Ontario. Likely in about 1904, George A Goddard filed for two homestead grants in the Maymount Rural Municipality (RM) of Saskatchewan. If all went well, it took about five years to fulfil all of the requirements to own a homestead and his grants were issued in 1909, so he must have moved onto them about 5 years prior to 1909. One was on the SE-2-38-17-W3 (Grant 1743106 issued 20 September 1909) and the other was SE-34-37-17-W3 (Grant 1743779 issued 28 October 1909). George and his family was enumerated in this area of Saskatchewan in 1906 and were still living on the latter piece of land in 1921.

About 1906 Nell married Austin Leland (Bud) Weaver, most likely in Maymount RM as that is where she & Bud were living in 1906. Bud was born on 26 November 1888 in Harold, Ontario to John Wesley Weaver (1863-1936) and Catherine Eleanor "Jane" Potts (1865-1925). His siblings were: James Arthur (1890-1972), Vada Blanche (1899-1921), William Delbert (1902-1972), Goldie Marcus (1904-1971) and Frederick Percival (1908-1987). The Weaver family was enumerated in Rawdon, Ontario in 1891 and Turtle Mountain, Manitoba in 1901. In 1906 they were living on homestead land SW-14-37-14-3 (Grant 1736018 issued 30 December 1908), about three miles from the land being homesteaded by the Goddard family. This is likely where Bud and Nell met. Violet Ella "Irene" was born to Bud and Nell in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on 22 December 1908 and died in 1980. A son, Austin, was born in Saskatchewan in July 1910.

By 1911 the family had moved to Saskatoon. In 1916 and 1921 they were living at 204 Ave H North. During the time of the Saskatoon census records, Bud was a brakeman for the railway. Seven more children were born in Saskatoon: Harold "Bud" (1913-1943), Walter (1914-1997), June (b 1919), Blanche (b 1921), Audrey Doreen (1926-2007), Irma May (1928-2000) and Charles Donald "Danny" (1930-1965). Some time after the birth of their last child, Bud and Nell moved to British Columbia. Bud died in Powell River on 15 February 1950 and Nell died in Vancouver on 7 December 1959.
