WILFRID DIAMOND

Wilfrid Diamond was born on 28 October 1894 in Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales to Thomas George Diamond (1851-1901) & Mary Ann Skinner (1853-1940). Wilfrid had three sisters, Ada (1878-1901), Lily (1881-1949) & Emily (b 1883) and four brothers, Ernest (b 1879), Tom (b 1885), Harry (1887) & Walter Harford (b 1895).

Following the death of Thomas George Diamond in 1901, several of his children came to Canada in the period 1908-1913 and his wife came in 1914. Although each generally made their own way, they sometimes roomed with their mother or their siblings.

Wilfrid came to Saskatoon and was living at 331 11th St in 1918-1920 and worked as bookkeeper/ accountant for Tees & Persse, manufacturers agents at 331 1st Ave. He continued working for Tees & Persse until about 1928 when he joined United Farmers Association as secretary. By this time he was rooming at the YMCA, 500-506 Spadina Crescent, Saskatoon. From 1942 onwards, Wilfrid was in Vancouver, British Columbia. He married Gertrude Ellis Jackson (b 1888), probably in 1943/44. Wilfrid continued to work as an accountant/auditor until the 1970’s. He died on 8 April 1985 in Vancouver.

Bookkeeping and accountancy seems to have run in the family. In addition to Wilfrid, Ernest, Tom & Walter all spent periods of their lives dealing with money.
