William Thomas Crawford was born on 4 July 1878 in Grey, Ontario to James Crawford (b 1847) & Harriet Whitmore (1851-1883). William had five brothers, Edgar Henry (b 1873), Albert (b 1878), Richard (b 1879), John B (b 1880) & George Augustin (b 1881) and one sister Mary (b 1883).

James farmed in Grey, Ontario before coming west to MacDonald, Manitoba in about 1906.

William first appeared in the Henderson Directories for Saskatoon in 1910 when he lived in Lackeley Hall, 2nd St and worked as a brakeman for CNR. He married Ada May Ginther on 24 April 1912. Ada was born on 16 February 1886 in Iowa, USA to Marion Gunther (1854-1920) & Luella Ella Disbrow (1860-1955). William & Ada had two children, Audrey Luella (1914-2008) who married Harry Bechthold (1916-1992) and Wiliam A (1918-1977) who married Doris Elsie “Trunks” Halfhide (1919-2000).

William worked for the CNR throughout his life; becoming a conductor in 1912 and remaining in post until he retired in 1943 after 31 years of service. William & Ada lived at 611 Lorne Ave from 1930 onwards. Ada died on 6 May 1946 and William on 3 January 1951. They are buried in adjacent plots in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon.
