FRANK LOWE

Frank Lowe was born in Aug 1870 in West Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England to Daniel Lowe (1830-1887) and Emily Anne Spanner (1830-1912). His siblings were: Oliver W (b 1853), George H (b 1859), Walter Albert (1864-1947) and Jessie (b 1868). He was raised in West Cowes and married Ada Wyeth in the third quarter of 1894 in the Isle of Wight. She was born in 1868 in Southampton, England to James Wyeth (1831) and Emily T (1835). Her siblings were: James (b 1872), Frank (b 1873), Horace (b 1877) and Edith (b 1879). Frank and Ada had three boys, all born in England: Norman Wyeth (b 1895), Roy Ira (b 1897) and Ronald Frank (1898-1941). In 1901 and 1911 the Lowe family lived in Portswood, Hampshire. Frank, Norman and Roy arrived in Quebec on 20 September 1912 aboard SS ‘Ausonia'. Ada and Ronald boarded SS ‘Ultonia' in Southampton on 5 November 1912 and arrived in Quebec on 16 November 1912. They all gave Winnipeg, Manitoba as their final destination.

In 1916 they were enumerated in Winnipeg and Frank was employed as a carpenter. Ada died on 19 November 1919 in Winnipeg. Frank married Ines "Hannah" Greenwood on 22 June 1920. She was born in January 1870 in Sowerby, Yorkshire, England to Sammy Greenwood (b 1839) and Grace (b 1838). Her siblings were: Ellen (b 1860), Uttley (b 1863) and Harry (b 1868). She had previously been married to Thomas Binns and had five children with him: Elizabeth (b 1887), John (b 1889), Samuel (b 1893), Grace (b 1894) and Mary "Doris" (1908-1978). The Lowe/Binns family was living in Winnipeg in 1921. Hannah died on 19 August 1957 in Winnipeg. Frank in January 1960. Hannah was buried in St Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery and Frank in Elmwood Cemetery .

We could find no candidate for the Frank Lowe signature with Saskatoon ties. As several people that signed the quilt near this signature have been traced to Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba it was thought that Frank Lowe may have come from there as well. So far these candidates have been identified as Methodist in census records for 1916 and/or 1921, as was Frank. It has been speculated that they were all in Saskatoon for some sort of church related meeting.
