CHARLES BERNARD LOWE
Charles Bernhard Lowe was born on 28 January 1895 in Broughton, Lancashire, England to Edward John Lowe (1862-1933) and Esther Mary Harlow (1862-1895). His siblings were: Edward Barton (b 1889) and Muriel (b 1892). He also had a half sister, Greta (b 1899) born to his father's second wife Anne Mallalieu Wylde (1870-1945). Charles was raised in Broughton, Lancashire, England. He boarded the SS 'Canada' in Liverpool, England on 13 July 1912 and arrived in Quebec City, Quebec on 22 July 1912. He identified himself as a student whose final destination was Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he planned to be a builder.
In 1916 he was lodging with Robert and Frances Isherwood and family at 210 27th St West in Saskatoon. He married their daughter, Ruby (1897-1967) circa 1916, likely in Saskatoon. Ruby was born on 16 October 1897 in Openshaw, Lancashire, England to Robert Isherwood (1867-1946) and Frances Berry (1869-1947). In both the 1901 and 1911 census years, Ruby was living with her mother's parents, James Berry (b 1840) and Sarah Ann Clayton (b 1843) in Altrincham, Cheshire, England. Her other siblings were always living with their parents during those years. Her siblings were: Robert (1898-1967), James Harold (1900-1964), Frances (b 1903) and John Cooper (1909-1981).
The Isherwood family immigrated to Canada circa 1912 and was living at 210 27th St West in Saskatoon in 1916. Charles Lowe was a clerk/bursar at the University of Saskatchewan in 1916 and 1917 and immigrated to the USA in the fall of 1918. The 1917 Saskatoon Henderson Directory listed him at 1012 College Drive and this was the same address given on a 1918 travel document on which he was identified as an organist. He signed the WWI USA Draft on 12 September 1918 in Detroit, Michigan.
The Lowe family lived in various locations in the United States: Detroit, Michigan (1920), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1930) and Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut (1933-1940). They had two boys and two girls. Ruby died on 19 September 1967 in Darien, Fairfield, Connecticut. The marital status on her death record indicated that she was divorced. Sometime after 1940, Charles married Carolyn Gertrude Luchsinger, the daughter of Harry W Luchsinger (b 1873) and Antonette Wurtzbach (b 1872). She was born on 8 October 1907 in Great Barrington, Berkshire, Massachusetts and had married George William John Robinson (b 1907) on 28 June 1932 in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. It is unknown if that marriage ended in divorce.
Charles died on 18 December 1977 in Stockbridge at the age of 82.
