William John Graham was born on 2 February 1858 in Huntley, Ontario to Elisha Graham (1826-1913) & Lucinda Kemp (1831-1901). William had two sisters, Susanna (1856-1919) & Edie (1863-1918) and three brothers, Elisha Horace (1865-1943), Howard (1868-1936) & Ruggles Kemp (1871-1921). William grew up on his parents farm, but was described as a clerk in the 1881 census. He married Emma Jane Ross (1859-1893) on 19 January 1887 in Lanark, Ontario. Emma was the daughter of Robert Ross (1833-1918) and Mary Jane Scot (1833-1912). Emma had one sister, Elizabeth Scott Graham (1862-1921).
William & Emma had three children, Lucy Blanche (b 1889), Jane Scot (Jennie) Graham (b 1891) and Robert Truman (1893-1979). It is presumed that Emma died in childbirth as her date of death coincides with Robert’s date of birth. William subsequently married Emma’s sister, Elizabeth on 29 May 1894. William & Elizabeth had two daughters, Emma Ross (b 1895) & Nina/Nena Catherine Graham (b 1897) and three sons, Elisha Sheffield (1898-1987), John Harold (b 1901) and Clifford Wesley (b 1905).
Jennie came west to Saskatoon in 1912 and found work as a stenographer for Canada Life Assurance Co. She lived at a series of addresses in Saskatoon: 204 28th St W (1912), Willoughby-Sumner Block (1913), 433 5th Ave (1914), suite 8 Queens Court (1915-1916), 816 7th Ave N (1917), suite 12a Queens Court (1918-1921) & 622 Saskatchewan Crescent (1922).
In 1915, Jennie’s sisters, Lucy & Emma were living with her; Lucy was employed as a stenographer for R G Dun & Co. In 1916, Nina was living at 640 Broadway but joined her sisters at Queens Court in 1918. Nina worked as a teacher in the public schools.
In 1949, Jennie & Nina were living together at 61 St George St, Brant, Wentworth, Ontario.
No further trace of Jennie, Nina or their siblings could be found.
This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Graham 1 Tree.
Nellie M Graham also signed the quilt in the same block as Elizabeth S Graham but despite extensive research we have been unable to link Nellie with the above family. See Nellie M Graham.
