Arthur Willmot Spurgeon was born in January 1888 in Reigate, Surrey, England to Robert Spurgeon (b 1854) and Sarah Miles (b 1851). His siblings were: Kate E (b 1881), Albert Edwin (b 1884) and Robert Archer (Bob) (1886-1972). In 1901 he was living with his family in Reigate and by 1911 was living in Wembley, Middlesex, England with John and Agnes Muschamp and family. Arthur sailed from Liverpool on SS ‘Canada’ and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia in April of 1912.
In 1916 he was living at 1239 Ave J, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with his brother, Robert, and his family. He was a salesman of dry goods. By 1918, he was living at 229 21st St E and was a clerk at McGowan & Company. In 1921 he was still single and had become a lodger with Sidney and Mary Caught and family at 819 7th Ave and was employed as a dry goods merchant. He was living at 902 Spadina Crescent and was a clerk at McGowan & Co, Departmental Store in 1928-31. About 1931, he married Constance Marie (Connie) Bunce (1905-1971). While living in Saskatoon, he was a member of the Saskatoon Red Cross. Arthur and Connie had two children, Constance Wilma and Robert (Bob) Tweedy. By 1940, he had moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan and was still there in 1968. Connie died in 1971 in Swift Current. She was buried in Mount Pleasant Burial Park.
