SHERIDAN FAMILY

Samuel John Sheridan was born on 5 December 1867 in Fenelon, Ontario to John Sheridan (b 1846) and Frances (Fanny) Bethan/Behan/Bekan (b 1843). His siblings were: Robert James (1860-1927), Charles Wesley (1863-1936), Isabella Jane (Belle) (1865-1946) and William George (b 1870).

He was raised in Fenelon and married Mary Ann (Annie) Agnew on 12 August 1891 in Beeton, Simcoe, Ontario. Mary Ann Agnew was born on 27 November 1865 in Tecumseth, Ontario to George Agnew (1833-1891) and Elizabeth (Eliza) Hammell (1844-1921). Her siblings were: Margaret (b 1866), Eliza Jane (1868-1939), Sarah (Sadie) (1871-1937), Martha Ellen (b 1874), Thomas Shumway (1876-1936), Agnes Margaret Etta May (1881-1961) and Chris Russell (b 1885). She was raised in Tecumseth, but was living in Beeton at the time of her marriage.

Annie and Samuel must have moved to Toronto shortly after their marriage because their daughter, Pearl Lillian was born there on 13 October 1892. The Sheridan family was still living in Toronto at the time of the 1901 census, but had moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan by 1911. At the time of the 1916 census, Pearl was still unmarried and living at home at 335 5th Ave N. Pearl and her mother joined 3rd Ave Methodist church in 1917.

Pearl married Thomas Spaven Elmore in Saskatoon on 30 April 1916. Thomas was born on 7 October 1892 in Ontario to William Edward Elmore (1844-1913) and Mary MacDonald (1854-1931). His siblings were: John G (b 1880), Cameron Walter (1884-1947), Emerson Bruce (b 1885), William Edward (1888-1934), Stanley Harold (1890-1952) and Wallace Oliver (b 1897).

In 1921, Samuel and Mary Ann were still living in Saskatoon at 213 5th Ave, but a border crossing record indicated that they had moved to Toronto by 1925. In census records and Henderson Directories, Samuel was a tailor. Nothing further could be found about Samuel and Mary Ann.

Thomas Elmore was a senior magistrate in Toronto for many years before reverting to private practice. He died in New Market, Ontario on 17 July 1965 and Pearl died in 1975. Both are buried in Toronto in Park Lawn Cemetery.
