John Ernst was born in about 1899 in USA of German parentage. John arrived in Canada about 1912 and in 1914 was living at #3 Blain Block, 324 6th Ave, Saskatoon. He was a bookkeeper for Quaker Oats Co. By 1916 he had progressed to credit manager for Quaker Oats and was living at #7 104 4th Ave N. In the Red Cross archive for 1918, John is recorded as a Life Member of the Saskatoon Branch.
John married Maria (b 1896) in about 1919. Maria came to Canada in about 1911 from Scotland where she and both her parents had been born. John and Maria had a son, John Jr born in 1920 in Saskatoon.
From 1921-1932, John lived ay 417 13th St E, Saskatoon and work at Quaker Oats Co as an office and credit manager. In 1934, John was working for Manufacturers Life as an agent.
No further trace of the family has been found.
It is possible that Maria was Mary Tough sister of Jean Tough (1889-1960) who married John Cairns (1887-1982). Mary Tough was a bank clerk at Royal Bank of Canada in Saskatoon in 1916 and lived at 444 Ave R.
