SACHEVERAL MEHEW GREENE

Sacheveral Mehew Greene was born on 15 February 1888 in Derby, England to Thomas Alfred Green (b 1863) & Sarah Ann Moore (1864-1905). Sacheveral had one sister, Irene Mary (b 1886) and one brother, Wilson Slee (b 1891). Thomas began his working life as a saddler, but by 1901 he was an agent for General Friendly Society. Following Sarah’s death in early 1905, Thomas and the children immigrated to Canada sailing from Liverpool on 7 May aboard SS ‘Bavarian’ bound for Montreal where they arrived on 17 May. By 1911 the family had arrived in Saskatoon where they all found employment; Thomas was a brakeman for CNR, Irene & Wilson were clerks in the CNR Freight sheds and Sacheveral was a passenger agent for Grand Trunk Pacific railway.

Sacheveral married Ethel Mary Hamilton probably about 1914 in Saskatoon. Ethel was born on 12 August 1893 in Pembroke, Renfrew, Ontario to James Henry Hamilton (1872-1945) & Mary Jane Bourdette (1870-1965). Sacheveral and Ethel had one daughter Marjorie Kathleen Greene born on 25 July 1915 in Saskatoon. By 1935 the family had moved to Winnipeg. On 23 August 1939, Sacheveral & Ethel arrived in Ketchikan, Alaska, USA aboard SS ‘Prince George’ having sailed from Prince Rupert, British Columbia. It is not clear whether this was a vacation but in any event, they emigrated to California in 1953. Sacheveral died on 15 July 1965 and Ethel on 29 September the same year, both in Los Angeles.

Marjorie married Edward Philip Binder (1912-1987) on 19 February 1938 in Orange, California. She subsequently married Elmer Herman Martin (1917-1996) on 27 November 1948 in Los Angeles. Marjorie died on 24 November 1995 in Whittier, Los Angeles, California.
