ERNEST WILLIAM and WILLIAM MORRIS (MAURICE) PIKE

Ernest William Pike was born on 26 January 1856 in Almondsbury, Gloucestershire, England to William Pike and Charlotte Lippiatt. His siblings were: Walter George (b 1848), Charles (b 1850), Mary (b 1853), Edward William (b 1854), Alice (b 1858), Hannah Elizabeth (1860-1899), Ada (b 1862), William John (b 1867) and George Henry (b 1869). The Pike family was living in Almondsbury in 1901. In 1881 Ernest and his brother, Edward, were boarding with Henry and Mary Bennett in Clifton, Gloucestershire, England where Ernest was working as a lamp lighter.

Catherine Grosvenor was born on 19 July 1860 in Lockington, Gloucestershire to Samuel Grosvenor (b 1818) and Ann Paine (b 1824). Her siblings were: William (b 1846), Samuel (b 1851), Elizabeth J (b 1858) and Ellen (b 1863). In 1861 and 1871 Catherine was living with her family in Olveston, Gloucestershire, England. In 1871 her father was not present in the household - marital status was not given for her mother. In 1881, Catherine was working as a maid for Francis G Barnett and family in Clifton. Ernest and Catherine both boarded SS ‘Parisian’ in Liverpool, England, on 27 April 1882 and landed in Quebec City, Quebec on 23 May 1882. Their names appeared under each other in the ship's passenger list.

Ernest married Catherine on 20 June 1882 in Owen Sound, Ontario. Their first child, Catherine Gertrude was born in Sullivan, Grey County, Ontario on 28 March 1883. Other children born to this union were: Ernest Gilbert (b 1885), Annie Barbara (b 1887), William Morris (Maurice) (b 1892-1967), Ada Florence (b 1894) and Pearl Grosvenor (1897-1980). The Pike family lived in Sullivan until at least 1901. They lived in London, Ontario in 1911, at 401 5th Ave N, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1916 and Burnaby, British Columbia in 1921. While living in Saskatoon, the Pikes ran a grocery business named Pike and Sons. The 1930 census found Ernest W and his sons, Ernest G and William M living in Los Angeles, California. By this time Ernest Sr was a widower. That census record indicated that the three men had moved to the United States in 1923. In May 1923, Ernest William, Catherine and Pearl Grosvenor Pike sailed from Vancouver, British Columbia to Seattle, Washington. Catherine must have died between 1923 and 1930, likely in the United States.

William Morris (Maurice) Pike was born on 9 June 1892 in Sullivan, Ontario and died on 23 October 1967 in Los Angeles, California.
