ALICE “RUTH” PIKE
Alice "Ruth" Pike was born in 1912 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to James "Albert" Edward Pike (1883-1966) and Emily Jane (Emma) (maiden name unknown) (1890-1959). She had one brother, Russell, also born in 1912. As Ruth and Russell had the same ages in both 1916 and 1921, they were very likely twins. The Pike family lived at 335 Main St in 1916 and 1921. Albert ran a sheet metal works at 318 3rd Ave, Saskatoon and Russell was an apprentice there in 1930. By 1935 the family had moved to 211 8th St E. Albert & Russell were tinsmiths and Ruth was a stenographer for McColl-Frontenac, oil manufacturers & dealers of 414 Ave N South.
As Ruth appeared on a voters list, still living with her parents in Saskatoon under her maiden name in 1935, it can be deduced that she married Lawrence Alexander (Lorne) Witherspoon some time after 1935. Lorne was born on 6 September 1908 in Brantford, Ontario to Lawrence Witherspoon (b 1871) and Kathleen (Kate) Martin (1873-1957). His siblings were: Mabel (b 1901), Ethel May (b 1907) and Norman (b 1914). In 1911 and 1916 the Witherspoon family lived on a farm in Colonsay RM, Saskatchewan. By 1921 Lawrence's father had died and Kathleen and the children had moved to 714 11th St in Saskatoon.
In 1937 Lawrence was living at the Pike family home of 211 8th St. By the time of the death of Ruth's mother in 1959, Ruth and Lawrence were living in Edmonton, Alberta. They had one daughter. Ruth died on 24 October 2003 and Lawrence on 26 September 1969 in Edmonton. Both were buried there in Mount Pleasant Municipal Cemetery.
