RUTH EDNA GRIGG

Ruth Edna Grigg was born on 30 September 1899 in Bruce Mines, Thessalon, Algoma, Ontario to William Grigg (1852-1932) & Frances Mary (Fanny) Jackson (1861-1939). Ruth had four sisters, Mary Frances (1879-1918), Alberta (Bertha) (1881-1924), Ida May (1883-1979) & Kate Hargraves (1885-1970) and three brothers, Albert (Ab) Edgerton (1888-1964), William Garnett (1892-1962) & George Herbert (Herb) (1895-1980). Ruth grew up on the family farm in Algoma near Lake Superior. By 1906 the family had settled on land at 12-31-14-W3 in Assiniboia some 300km south of Saskatoon.

In 1909 Ruth was a student living on 15th St, Saskatoon with her parents and William & George. The family moved to 719 Ave H South about 1915 and Ruth found work as a clerk & stenographer for CNR from about 1920.

Ruth married Watson Simon (Slim) Hodgson (1889-1957) in 1921 in Saskatoon. Watson was born on 10 October 1889 in Burnt River, Somerville Township, Victoria County, Ontario to John Yates Hodgson (1845-1919) & Isabella West (1855-1938). Watson had six brothers, Thomas (1872-1933), William J (1874-1936), Christopher (1881-1967), Joseph (1887-1961), Charles Oliver (1894-1977) & Clayton W (1897-1970) and four sisters, Margaret Jane (1877-1955), Sarah Lydia (1878-1883), Mary Etta (1883-1959) & Isabella Naomi (1892-1895). Watson grew up on the family farm in Somerville until he moved to Saskatoon in 1912 to work as a brakeman for CNR.

Ruth & Watson moved to Humboldt sometime around 1935 and remained their throughout their lives. Watson worked as a trainman for CNR. Ruth & Watson had four children, William, Howard, Frances & Gregg. Watson died in 1957 following an accident on the railroad. Ruth died in 1991.
