ANNIE “MAE” HACKETT Née MORENUS

Annie "Mae" Morenus was born on 18 February 1867 in Sidney, Delaware, New York to Harvey Barnes (Harry) Morenus (b 1841) & Elizabeth H Bailey (b 1843). Mae had two brothers, Howard B (1869-1940?) & Robert F (b 1873). Annie’s father, Harry Morenus fought and was wounded in the Civil War, being shot in both arms. After his marriage to Elizabeth Bailey on 27 September 1865, they moved to Walton, Delaware, New York where Harry was a grocer in 1870 and a carpenter from 1880.

Mae married Charles M Hackett around 1891 based on the later census records. Charles was born on 22 April 1866 in Queonta, Chenango, New York to Jerome Hackett (1838-1910) & Ellen Walker (1846-1927). Charles had four sisters, Olive Blanche (1868-1901), Cora (b 1872), Mary (1884-1941) & Emma (b 1886). Jerome farmed in Cicero, Onondaga, New York throughout his married life.

Charles and Mae remained in Cicero until about 1892 when they moved to Buffalo, Erie, New York where Charles was a draughtsman. Charles & Mae had three daughters, Marion E (b 1897), Doris M (b 1898) & Kathleen M (b 1903). By 1910 they were living in Schenectady, New York and Charles was described as an electrical engineer.

In 1912, Charles, Mae and the girls were at Apartment 8 Chubb Block 229 21st St, Saskatoon. The next year they had moved to 642 Saskatchewan Ave and Charles was described as president on the Interior Finish Co Ltd, woodworkers with premises on 3rd Ave N near the railroad tracks. From 1914-1916, they were living at 1018 Aird St and Charles was described as an architect. The last record of the family in Saskatoon was in 1918 when they were living at 845 Temperance St and Charles was an architect working for Phillips, Stewart & Lee.

Charles subsequently worked for the government as a civil engineer and made a trip to England returning via New York in 1926. From 1930 onwards the family lived in Nashville, Tennessee. Mae died in Nashville on 25 November 1945. No date has been found for Charles death.
