ANNA JANE (JEAN) (ANNIE) OVEREND née SPIERS
Anna Jane (Jean, Annie) Spiers was born on 31 December 1850 in Ontario to John Spiers (1804-1875) and Jannet Spottiswood (1807-1893). Her siblings were: James W (1837-1914), John (1840-1841), Janet (1842-1863), Agnes (1844-1915) and John Russell (1849-1900). In 1861 the Spiers family was living in Peel, Wellington, Ontario.
Annie likely married William Overend in about 1875. William was most likely born in Ireland in 1832. The 1871 and 1881 censuses, which were the only ones that could be found during the time that he was alive, indicated that he was Irish, but his family gave his nationality as English in some later census records. As the 1871 census was created when he was single, it seems most likely that he was Irish. William settled in Maryborough, Wellington, Ontario in 1871 and appeared to have remained there for the rest of his life.
William and Annie had six children: John T (1876-1948), Martha O (1878-1949), Janet V (Jean) (b 1880), William Henry (1880-1880), William Alfred (1881-1951) and Henry Maurice (Harry) (b 1884). William died on 22 February 1894 at the age of 62 and was buried in Hollen Cemetery, Hollen, Wellington, Ontario. That was also the final resting place for two of his sons, John and William Alfred.
In 1911, Annie and daughter, Jean, were living in Lang, Saskatchewan where Jean was a teacher. From at least 1914 to 1920 they lived in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, at #5 Coronation Court 444 5th Ave North. Annie and Jean first appeared on the roll for 3rd Ave Methodist Church in 1914. On 7 September 1918 Henry enlisted for WWI in Shelby, Montana and gave his mother's address at the Coronation Court address. Jean married William Duncan Donaldson on 15 December 1920 and was found living in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1921 with William and three of his children from a previous marriage. Her mother was no longer listed in Saskatoon Henderson Directories after 1920 and she was not living with the Donaldson family in Regina. Nothing more could be discovered about her.
This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Overend Tree.
