MARY ELLEN (ELLA) METZGER

Mary Helen (Ella) Metzger (maiden name unknown) was born in the USA in 1873 and immigrated to Canada on 11 July 1917. This was likely shortly after her marriage to Edwin Emil Metzger who was born on 27 May 1870 in Illinois to Conrad Metzger (1827-1883) and Anna Truwe (1831-1905). Edwin's siblings were: Catharine (b 1853), Henrietta Anna (1866-1928) and William (1869-1946). Edwin was raised in Manhattan, Will, Illinois and immigrated to Canada in 1902.

Edwin and his brother, William, homesteaded land in Vanscoy RM, Saskatchewan, SE 16-36-08-3 and NW 10-36-08-3, respectively. Edwin was issued his grant on 30 March 1907 and William on 3 March 1907. In 1916, Edwin was single and still living on his homestead. From at least 1918 until 1921 he was listed as a farmer in Saskatoon Henderson Directories at 1009 Melrose Ave. He and Ella were enumerated at that address in the 1921 census. Ella died on 5 December 1932. In 1945 Edgar was living at 1012 Melrose Ave. He died on 25 January 1953. Both Edgar and Ella died in Saskatoon and were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. Edwin’s obituary did not mention any children.
