DONALD MIDDLEMASS

Donald Middlemass was born on 1 May 1880 in Scotland to John Middlemass (b 1838) and Susan McPherson (b 1843). His siblings were: Grace (b 1869), Christina (b 1871), Alexina (b 1873), Susan (b 1875), John (b 1878) and Angus (b 1884). He was raised in Kingussie and Insh until at least 1901.

Donald married Marjory McIntosh in Scotland circa 1908. She was born on 1 June 1879 in Kingussie, Inverness-shire, Scotland to Ewen Greive McIntosh (1841- before 1891) and Clementina McGregor (b 1843). Her siblings were: Mary (b 1874), William (b 1875), John (b 1877) and Ewen (b 1881). The McIntosh family lived in Kingussie until at least 1901. Three children were born to Marjory and Donald in Scotland: Clementina (Minnie) (b 1909), John (b 1911) and Margaret Susan (b 1913).

Donald was a joiner by trade. He boarded SS ‘Pretorian' in Glasgow, Scotland on 20 April 1912 and arrived in Quebec City, Quebec on 1 May 1912. He was travelling alone and gave his final destination as Nutana (now part of Saskatoon), Saskatchewan. Marjory and the three children boarded SS ‘Grampian' in Glasgow on 18 July 1913 and arrived in Quebec City on 27 July 1913. Donald's sister Alexina was travelling with them and they gave their final destination as Saskatoon to join husband or brother. Three more children were born in Saskatchewan: Donald (1914-1983), Marjory (b 1916) and Ina (b 1919).

The Middlemass family was living at 1907 Munroe Ave in 1916 and at 1517 Munroe Ave in 1921. In about 1942, Donald and Marjory moved to British Columbia. Both died in Victoria, British Columbia, Marjory on 4 July 1956 and Donald on 18 May 1951. They were buried in Colwood Burial Park in the same city.
