GEORGE WALTER HARRINGTON

George Walter Harrington was born on 10 July 1886 in Port Perry, Durham, Ontario to George Walter Harrington (1859-1933) and Jane Ann (Jennie) Cuthbert (1861-1897). George Jr had two siblings, Florence Rosie (1890-1969) & Floyd Cuthbert (1893-1926). George Sr was a hardware merchant in Toronto in 1901.

George Jr came west to Saskatoon in 1913 with his brother and established his jewellery business in Broadway Ave. Floyd is described as a watchmaker and optician at this time. The brothers lived at 430 11th St, Saskatoon.

George married Bessie Van Buren Miner (1894-1980) on 5 May 1915 in Saskatoon. Bessie was born on 17 November 1894 in Cobden, Ontario to Chester Banks Miner (1865-1931) and Georgina Adams (1867-1925). Bessie had three brothers, Vernon Ulysses (1892-1963), Charles Hartwell (1898-1947) and Clarence Adams (1901-1988). After their marriage, they moved to 432 10th St for a few years before settling in their family home at 737 University Dr, Saskatoon.

George and Bessie had five children, Jean (1916-2011), Helen “Frances” (1918-2011), Robert Walter (1925-1987), Beatrice Mary Louise (Marilou) (1928-2010) and Phyllis.

George died on 20 June 1975 and Bessie died on 21 May 1980 both in Saskatoon. They are buried in adjacent plots in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon.

This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Harrington Tree.

It seems that George's business thrived as in 1945 the building on Broadway was named Harrington Block.
