GEORGE HEMMERICH/HEMMERICK

George Hemmerich was born on 29 April 1891 in Waterloo, Ontario to William Hemmerich (1847-1911) and Susanna Schmidt (1853-1926). George had eight siblings, Mary Margaret (Maria) (1874-1945), Emanual (1875-1957), Emma Christine (1878-1953), William S (1881-1956), John S (1884-1964), Milton (1886-1891), Clara (1888-1966) and Hilda P (1894-1953).

George grew up on the family farm in Waterloo, Ontario before coming west to Saskatoon possibly to attend the University. In 1918-19 he was working for Murphy & Underwood (Civil Engineers) as an engineer and living at 605 Ross Building, 116 3rd Ave S, Saskatoon.

George returned to Woolwich Township, Waterloo by 1921 and was living with his brother William and working as an engineer. He married Algeva Madeline Organ (b 1901) on 28 November 1925 in Wentworth, Ontario. Algeva was born on 8 July 1901 in Wentworth to William John Organ (b 1869) and Edna Irene Markel (b 1879). Algeva had one sister Mildred (b 1900).

George joined the Dow Chemical Company and remained with them until his retirement. He is mentioned in a newspaper article of 1946:

A subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company will be opened in Toronto April 1 with N. Russell Crawford of Los Angeles, California, as president and manager. The company announced also that its Sarnia, Ontario, plant will begin producing plastics soon and that all sales to the British Empire will be handled through the new Dow Chemical Co. of Canada Ltd:, at Toronto. The Sarnia plant, costing an estimated $1,000,000, will employ about 50 persons initially. George Hemmerick, sales manager for Canada, will serve as treasurer and sales manager for the Toronto subsidiary.

George and Algeva lived at 305 Lawrence Ave E, York, Ontario from the late 1940s.

George died on 15 April 1954 in Toronto, Ontario.
