JOHN HENRY PARRY
John Henry Parry was born in 1864 in Llanrug, Caernarvonshire, Wales to Henry Parry (1838-1912) and Anne (1833-1919). John had three siblings, Hugh H (b 1867), Anne E (b 1871) and Joseph Henry (b 1874). John grew up in Llanrug and followed his father in working at the local slate quarries.
John married Jane Parry (b 1859) on 8 February 1889 in Capel Coch, Llanberis, Caernarvonshire. Jane was born in the first quarter of 1859 to Richard Parry (1827-1907) and Mary (1830-1906). Jane had six siblings, Ellen (b 1853), John (b 1856), William (b 1861), Richard (b 1864), Margret (b 1867) and Henry R (b 1869). Jane grew up in Llanberis and was a dressmaker at the time of her marriage.
After their marriage, John and Jane continued to live in Llanberis and John continued to work as a slate quarrier. John and Jane had one son, Henry Richard (b 1891). Henry was also working in the quarry in 1911, as a slate dresser.
About 22 June 1912, the family boarded SS 'Virginian' in Liverpool, England bound for Quebec where they landed on 28 June 1912. By 1913, they had travelled to Saskatoon and were living at 704 Ave J South, Saskatoon. No occupation was recorded for John, but Henry was working at the city water pumping works. The following year, the family had moved to 637 Weldon Ave, John was a teamster and Henry a labourer both for the city authority. Later, John worked as an elevator man and then janitor at Canada Building on the corner of 21st St and 1st Ave S. Henry was a porter for CPR in 1917.
In the Henderson City directory for 1919, the family were living at Apartment 110 Bowerman Block, 130 21st St where John was a janitor. No further record of the family could be found in Saskatoon or in Canada. However in September of that year a John and Jane Parry sailed from Montreal arriving in Liverpool on 2 October destined for Llanberis, Wales.
In 1922, Henry was serving on SS ‘Orbita’ as a 2nd Class Bedroom Steward sailing between Southampton and New York.
