Peter Alexander Robertson Highet was born on 10 April 1873 in Blanshard, Perth South, Ontario to James Ritchie Highet (1831-1905) and Mary Robertson (1833-1932). Peter had four siblings, William (1866-1952), Ann Jeanette (1868-1960), James Alexander (1870-1955) and John Ritchie (Jack) (1876-1946). Peter grew up on the family farm in Blanshard.
Peter married Florence T (Flossie) about 1903 probably in RM Brandon, Manitoba. Flossie was born on 20 March 1885 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to John William Pullan (1847-1904) and Elizabeth Martin McCormick (1853-1944). Flossie had five siblings, Ann Pickling (1874-1957), William John (1875-1955), James Evan (1878-1884), Levi Leverock (Len) (1881-1962), and Ida Mary Pullan (1883-1971).
Peter and Flossie had one daughter, Mildred Evelyn, born on 3 August 1904 in Bradwardine, Manitoba who died in infancy on 20 June 1905. Flossie had already died on 1 January 1905.
Peter married Ida Mary Pullan, Flossie’s sister on 5
December 1906 in Brandon, Manitoba. Ida was born on 11 November 1883 in Manitoba.
Peter and Ida had three children, Mildred Evelyn (1908-2003), John Leslie (1911-1997) and Marjorie Jeanette (1915-2010).
Peter moved with his family to Saskatoon in 1912 and found employment as a traveller for Rumely Products, agricultural implement suppliers. He lived at 819 Ave B North. The following year Peter worked for Hart-Parr Co another agricultural implement supplier. Then he changed again to Canadian Fairbanks-Morse when this company opened in Saskatoon.
Through the 1930s and 1940s, Peter worked for Richardson Road Machinery and was assistant sales manager when he retired about 1950.
Ida’s great granddaughter, Shauna Martin writes: “Ida was an accomplished seamstress and trained as a tailor. She made her daughter Marjorie’s wedding dress and the groom’s tuxedo.”
Peter died on 20 August 1952 in Saskatoon and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon. Ida died on 4 August 1971 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is also buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
