JACK HORNE

John Edward Horne was born about 1878 in Norway. It is not known when John came to Canada, but he left Winnipeg, Manitoba for the US in November 1907.

John married Alma T(h)orstenson (b 1889) on 31 October 1910 in Pierce County, Washington, USA. John’s brother Olans Horne was a witness. John and Alma had four children, Edward Alvin (b 1911), Margaret Louise (1914-2002), Norman Raymond (b 1916) and Roy Kenneth (b 1919).

John and Alma returned to Canada in 1913-14 and were living in Saskatoon at 504 25th St E in 1916. John was a building contractor.

In 1921, they were living in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and John was a commercial traveller.

Nothing further is known about John and Alma.

John Robert Horne was born in May 1903 in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England to Richard Henry (Harry) Horne (1866-1939) and Fannie Eliza Keeber (1865-1926). John had seven siblings, Herbert Henry (1891-1955), Lucy Ann (b 1892), Benjamin Keeber (1894-1956), Hilda Eleanor (b 1897), David Keeber (1908-1926), Maud (b 1912) and Grace (b 1915).

John came to Canada in about 1906 with his parents. By 1911, John’s father was farming near Saskatoon. In 1916, the family were living at 616 5th Ave N, John’s father was a signalman for CNR and John’s sister Hilda was an employee at Christie Bros laundry.

In 1920 John (named as Robert in the Henderson directory) is an an employee for the Phoenix newspaper. The following year he is a clerk for CN Telephones.

John married Doris Evelyn Bedford on 29 November 1926 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Doris was born in August 1902 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England to William Bedford (b 1875) and Catharine Burgess Millet (b 1876). Doris had two siblings, Gladys Marion (b 1904) and Reginald Thomas Benjamin (b 1909).

We have not found any Jack Horne in the local directory or census records.

There are two candidates for the Jack Horne signature. The first one John Edward Horne was a building contractor in Saskatoon. The second candidate John Robert Horne worked briefly for the local newspaper. We have not found any reference to either of them using the name ‘Jack’.

Neither of these candidates appear to be strong contenders.
