AULT and GILLESPIE FAMILIES

Charles Albert Gillespie was born on 29 March 1856 in New Castle, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada, the eldest son of Robert Gillespie & Sarah Ann Parker. He had two brothers, Robert & John henry and four sisters, Sarah Ann, Emily, Mary & Mabel. Charles married Jane Hogg on 28 December 1888 in Petersville, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada.

Jane, also Janet/Jennie Hogg, was born on 18 December 1860 in Petersville, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada, the eldest daughter of George & Eliza Hogg. She had one brother, Robert and one sister, Frances Adelaide (Fanny).

Charles and Jane had two children, Annie Maude (b 5 September 1881) and Emily Blanche (b 21 January 1883).

Charles worked as clerk in a dry goods store. In 1916 he was proprietor of The Big 22, Men’s Furnishings. Jane died on 13 March 1923 in Royal Oak, British Columbia and Charles died on 4 June 1932 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Emily Blanche Gillespie married Zenas Gurley Ault Jr (b 1 May 1875 in Wellington, Ontario, Canada). Zenas’ father also Zenas Gurley Ault was in the dry goods business too. Zenas & Blanche lived at 315 3rd Ave N when they were first married. They had one daughter, Jean A, born in 1917. The family lived at 42 25th St W for many years and Zenas Jr was a salesman for his father-in-law’s business.

Zenas Jr died on 22 August 1956 in Vancouver, British Columbia and Emily died on 24 May 1964 also in Vancouver, British Columbia.
