HAROLD ALBERT MANNING

Harold Albert Manning was born on 23 May 1874 in Poplar, London, England to Arthur Edward Charles Manning (b 1844) and Christian Kitchin (1841-1894). His siblings were: Florence Emma (1866-1923), Mary Kate (1868-1947), Arthur Edward (1869-1900), Horace (1870-1948) and Frederick Charles (1873-1949). In 1881 Harold and all of his siblings were enumerated at a boarding school in West Ham, Essex, England.

On 17 May 1883, Christian and at least her four youngest children boarded the SS 'Sarmatian' in Liverpool, England and arrived in Quebec City, Quebec on 28 May 1883. Christian was a matron on the ship which had a long list of children coming to Canada - possibly orphans. The names of the two eldest girls were not documented to have come on the same ship, but they too immigrated to Canada around this time.

Harold married Sara Hettie "Norma" Amanda Smith on 29 December 1908 in Revelstoke, British Columbia. Norma was born on 20 December 1885 in Souris, Manitoba to Albert Nicholas Smith (1864-1903) and Margaret Adella Banting (1866-1949). She had one brother, Ephraim (1893-1920). She was raised in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, likely near Revelstoke. Harold and Norma had four children: Frederick Albert Ephraim (1911-1989), Arthur Donald Armon (1914-1914), Harold Edward (1917-1997) and Norman Benjamin (1920-1992).

By 1916 they were living at 822 12th St in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and were still living there in 1921. 1924 was the last listing in the Saskatoon Henderson Directories for Harold Manning. At that time he was listed at 824 12th St. According to his death registration he moved to British Columbia in 1934 and was employed in the lumber business. Norma died on 14 December 1944 in Vancouver, British Columbia and Harold on 15 November 1958 in the same city.

Frederick was born on 8 February 1911 in Calgary, Alberta and died on 7 March 1989 in Victoria, British Columbia. He married Phyllis Audrey Pendray (1912-2010) on 17 Aug 1935 in Victoria.

Harold was born on 24 March 1917 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and died on 5 May 1997 in Vancouver, British Columbia. He married Doris May Hull (1914-2004) on 14 October 1942 in Vancouver.

Norman was born on 22 December 1920 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and died on 11 April 1992 in Saanichton, British Columbia. He married his first wife Delia Ruth Altwasser (b 1919) on 6 May 1944 in Vancouver and his second, Isobel Victoria Rice-Jones (b 1925) on 24 August 1970 in Vancouver.
