FRANCES ELIZABETH LAING née WILEY and MADELAINE FRANCES LAING

Frances Elizabeth Wiley was born on 21 December 1868 in Toronto, Ontario to James W Wiley (1836-1881) and Susannah Anna (Susan) Shaw (1839-1927). Her siblings were: Mary Adelaide (1862-1956), Alexander (1863-1867), James (b 1868), Andrew Shaw (1870-1955), Susan Emma (b 1874), Rachel (Ray) (1875-1958), Kay (b 1877) and George Gordon (1877-1955). She was raised in Toronto, Ontario and married Louis Frederick Laing there on 18 August 1890.

Louis was born on 19 September 1864 in Whitby, Ontario to William Laing (1817-1891) and Louisa Amelia (1824-1864). He had five siblings: James Bing (b 1844), William Bing (b 1848), Andrew (b 1854) and Reginald Decourey (1854-1890). It would appear that his mother died in childbirth as she died on the same day that Louis was born. His father married Harriet McKissick (b 1838) on 6 September 1869 in Whitby, Ontario. She had previously been married to Thomas French and had four children with him: Matilda Angeline (1854-1879), William Pierre (b 1856), A F A K (b 1858) and Harriet (Hattie) (b 1863). Harriet also had three children with William Laing: Arthur (b 1871), Louisa J (b 1876) and Margaret (Maggie) (b 1879).

Frances and Louis had four children, all born in Toronto: a stillborn girl in 1891, Laura Adelaide (1893-1948), Madelaine Frances (b 1895) and Frederick Louis (1902-1982). In 1901 the Laing family was living in Toronto. In 1911 Louis Laing was listed in the Saskatoon Henderson Directory at 316 11th Street in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, but could not be located in the 1911 census. In 1916 the Laing family was living at 134 Spadina Crescent E. Louis was an advertising solicitor for the Daily Star. He died in 1918.

The 1918 Saskatoon Henderson Directory listed Madeline as a stenographer at the court house living at 421 8th Street. In 1921 Frances, Madeline and Frederick were living at 444 5th Ave. Frances died on 2 June 1935 in Saskatoon. She and Louis were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Madeline was born on 16 December 1895 in Toronto, Ontario. She married a lawyer, Ralph Charles Geddes (b 1890), the son of David Geddes (b 1848) and Alice Kidner (b 1858). Madeline and Ralph were living in Hamilton, Ontario at the time of her mother's death in 1935. When her sister, Laura Tabberner, died in 1948 they were living in Picton, Ontario and were still there in 1957. By 1963 Madeline was a widow and was still living in Picton. Nothing further could be discovered about her.
