Horace Dexter Kennedy was born on 12 November 1877 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA to John Wright Kennedy (1838-1917) and Eliza Maria Chamberlain (1844-1903). Horace had two siblings, Jessie Wright (1874-1956) and Alice C (b 1884). Horace grew up in Chicago but moved with his mother and younger sister, Alice, to Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA by 1900 when they lived at 15 Bigelow Avenue and Horace was a salesman in the local market.
Horace married Zella Landree (née Evans) on 23 October 1917 in Cook Co, Illinois. Velvia Ella/Zella Evans was born in December 1887 in Ohio, USA to Nelson Evans (1864-1922) and W Anna (b 1868). Zella had one brother, Clarence (b 1904). Nothing is known about her first marriage.
Horace and Zella immigrated to Canada in 1918 and Horace described himself as ‘farmer’. They first appeared in the Saskatoon directory in 1919, living at apartment 423 Drinkle No 3 116 3rd Ave S. Horace was a salesman for Auto Service Co. Horace worked in the motor trade for the rest of his life. He was manager of Western Motor Sales and then Jackson and Western Auto Parts. Horace and Zella lived at 530 Ave G South from 1923 to 1950. Horace was still working in 1950, aged 73 years.
Horace died in Vancouver, British Columbia on 4 November 1955. Nothing further has been founds about Zella.
