FRANCIS XAVIER (FRANK) BENNINGER

There are two possible Frank Benningers, both farmers in Culross.

Francis Xavier (Frank) Benninger was born on 24 October 1872 in Formosa, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada to Matthias Benninger (1835-1912) and Margaretta Illig (1839-1924). Frank had twelve siblings, Susan (1858-1900), Elizabeth (1862-1951), Mathias (b 1864), Margaret (b 1866), William (b 1868), Theresa (1872-1888), Veronica (Fannie) (1873-1956), Mary (1874-1951), Thomas J (1875-1963), Stephen (b 1876), Appolonia (1878-1957) and Jacob (1882-1965).

Frank married Mary Hannah Theresa Schwartz on 25 October 1898. Mary was born on 26 May 1875 in Carrick, Bruce County to Joseph J Schwartz (1841-1910) and Carolina (Carrie ) Kuenemann (1847-1899). Mary had eleven siblings, Ignatius J (1865-1925), Alexander (1867-1887), Peter E (1868-1930), John L (1870-1937), Frank J (b 1871), Charles George (1874-1924), Susannah Magdelana (1875-1938), Solomon (b 1876),  Henry Urban (b 1878), George (b 1882) and Anthony Linus (b 1886).

Frank and Mary had twelve children,

Irwin (1899-1998),
Florence Magdaline (1901-1988),
Caroline Marie (1903-1993),
Hedwig (Hattie) (1905-2002),
Laura Matilda (1906-1993),
Otto Joseph (b 1908),
Leonard Mathew (b 1908),
Frank Xavier (b 1910),
George Alexander (1912-1978),
Joseph Leo (1913-1981),
Solomon Jacob (b 1915) and
Leo Clements (b 1918).

It is thought that Mary died on 15 November 1949 in Formosa, Bruce County and that Frank died on 21 December 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, USA.

The family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title Culross Benninger/Cassidy/OHagan/ Valad Tree.

Frank was distantly related through his grandparents to several others named on the quilt. See here.
