THE PARKER FAMILY

Samuel Parker Sr (1819-1897) married Elizabeth Cooper (1827-1881) in England around 1845. Their first child, Hannah was born in Nottingham, England in the first quarter of 1846. As their second child, Sarah was born on 9 February 1850 in Culross, it seems that Samuel, Elizabeth and Hannah came to Canada around 1849.

Samuel Sr and Elizabeth had a further seven children, Diana (1852-1944), Thomas (1857-1899), William (1857-1936), Mary (1860-1938), George (1863-1935), Samuel (1865-1922) and Annie (1868-1941).

Samuel was born on 19 July 1865 in Culross. He married Sophia Haines in Culross in 1896 (according to the Culross history, ‘All Our Yesterdays’). Sophia was born on 17 May 1875 in Culross to George Haines (1844-1931) and Sarah Jane Diamond or Dymond (1847-1912). Sohia had seven siblings, Elizabeth Ann (b 1870), Sarah Jane (b 1872), John Edward (1873-1933), George Thomas (b 1877), James Wesley (b 1879), Mary Ellen Ann (b 1882) and Peter Gillies (1886-1974). Elizabeth Ann married Henry Drehmann and their daughter, Ethel, is on the quilt.

Samuel and Sophia had eight children,

Samuel George (1897-1897),
Remelda Jane (1898-1980),
Sophia (1902-1967),
Verna (1907-1989),
Wilfred Ernest (1911-1913),
Everett Samuel (1916-1987),
Harold Elmer (1918-1993) and
Mabel Elizabeth (b 1920).

Remelda was born on 4 August 1898 in Brant Twp, Bruce County. She married Norman in Walkerton on 25 October 1922. Norman was born on 28 June 1902 in Walkerton to John Whitehead (1859-1925) and Elizabeth Stancil (1858-1949). Norman had nine siblings, Joseph (1884-1961), Benjamin Moses (1885-1965), Martha Jane (1887-1978), Cecelia (1889-1973), Charles Alfred (b 1891), Nettie (1893-1962), John (1895-1977), Harvey (1898–1967) and Mary Jane (1900-1978).

Remelda and Norman had two children,

Evelyn Norma (1923-1996) and
Everett Elmer (1927-1973).

Remelda died on 1 August 1980 in Wingham, Huron County.

Verna was born on 31 December 1907 in Culross. She married Robert Lloyd Riley in Huron, Grey County on 7 November 1928. Robert was born on 11 August 1902 in Brant Twp to William ((b 1872) and Fannie Francis (b 1874). Robert had seven siblings, Annie (b 1889), Alvin F (1898-1971), Florence B (b 1900), Emma (b 1901), Ethel May (b 1904), Wallace (b 1905) and William Elmer (1914-1997).

Verna and Robert had one son Gordon (1934-1980).

Verna died on 15 July 1989 and is buried in Culross-Teeswater Cemetery.
